The Mercedes-Benz R129 range of their iconic SL was introduced in 1989, successfully bringing the exclusive two-seater into modern times. A completely new model from 1971 ago, the R129 naturally had many innovations, including (the first Mercedes model with) a hydraulic convertible roof and V8 engines with 48 valves. This generation of SL was also the world's first convertible with an automatic 'roll-bar' in the event of a rollover during an accident, and that contributes to the pure, minimalist lines. This is also the last SL available with a manual gearbox. Since 1992, a V12 was even introduced for the first time (in the '600 SL' / 'SL 600') and official AMG versions (500 SL 6.0 AMG, SL 60 AMG (V8), SL 70 AMG (V12), SL 73 AMG (V12) and finally SL 55 AMG (V8)). Cosmetic & technical updates followed in 1994, including a rearranged engine pallet and a corresponding change in the numbers & letters naming. The 3.0-liter inline six with 12 or 24 valves now came in two sizes (2.8 and 3.2 liters), both with 24 valves. That's why the 300 SL and '300 SL-24' now became an SL 280 and SL 320, while the unchanged V8 and V12 were renamed as SL 500 and SL 600. The owner of this SL doesn't really want to get rid of it, but personal circumstances sometimes compel. That's why you can of course have a great opportunity here, with a nice V8 in an old-timer convertible! When he points out the mini dent at the front of the lights, when we ask what condition the car is in, you know that this 500 SL has really been taken care of.
